Herbert Doughty

Herbert H. PaPa D Doughty passed away peacefully in his home on False River, Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at the age of 83. He was retired from the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge and CSD Collection Division after 37 years as an account executive. He is survived by his daughter and soninlaw, Marjorie Doughty Meyer and Robert M. Meyer, of Whale Pass, Alaska, and Baton Rouge two granddaughters and their spouses, Shelley Ricks Graham and Kirk Graham, and Kamie Ricks Sanchez and Mike Sanchez three greatgrandchildren, Olivia Marjorie Jeanette Graham, Rio McKay Gauthier and Zeke Pierre Gauthier stepgreatgrandchildren, Holly and Ryan Sanchez and a sister, Louise Youngblood. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jeanette W. Doughty parents, Millard and Gussie Wright Doughty three sisters, Gladys Dodd, Mary Mae Jane Richardson and Doris Dumingan and two brothers, Eldon and Truett Doughty. Herbert was a U.S. Army Air CorpsAir Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church in New Roads, a former member of Oakcrest Baptist Church and a former member of the Downtown Lions Club of Baton Rouge for more than 38 years, serving as both board member and vice president. He was active for many years with the Baton Rouge Police Youth Camp and volunteered his time and talents to build and refurbish Judson Baptist Retreat Center. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at First Baptist Church of New Roads on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Greg Clark, followed by a lunch reception at the church. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, conducted by Dr. Collin Wimberly, Senior Pastor of Parkview Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Tim Doughty, Matt Dumigan, Kevin French, Maurice Gauthier, Kirk Graham, Donny Richardson, Mike Shanchez, Darwin Sharp and Mike Youngblood. Honorary pallbearers are RL Beasley, Conrad Girlinghouse, Kirby Randall, Bobby Doughty, Joe Doughty, Jim Dumigan, Robert Meyer, Jerry Richardson, Keith Ricks, Ryan Sanchez, Craig Sharp, Mike Wallace, Steve Wallace, Doctor Fulmers Sunday School Class and the Friday Morning New Roads Mens Breakfast Club. Herberts family wishes to thank members of First Baptist Church of New Roads, family, friends and Pointe Coupee Hospice staff for their prayers, support and expressions of love. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pointe Coupee Hospice, 350 Hospital Road, New Roads, LA 70760, or Downtown Lions Club, P.O. Box 4678, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. PaPa D was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle, greatuncle and friend. His wit, charm and wonderful personality made him much loved by all He never met a stranger...NEVER. Although his colorful personal stories were told many times over we always loved them and never grew tired of hearing them. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18.
