Herbert Thomas "Hap" Arnold Jr.
Herbert Thomas "Hap" Arnold Jr. passed away at his home on July 2, 2016 at the age of 87 due to Parkinson's Disease.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Thomas Arnold, Sr. and his mother, Louise Foret Arnold Bertrand.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Verna Beatrice "Bea" Delcambre Arnold; his daughter, Karen Arnold; sons Kirk Arnold and his wife Peggy and Kraig Arnold and his wife Janet; four grandchildren, Tommy and his wife Sarah, Chris and Taylor, Joey Arnold and David Arnold; and one great-grandchild, Cayden Arnold. Herbert is also survived by his sister, Shirley Arnold Labarge Hamilton, who affectionately called him "Brother".
Hap was a proud US Marine and served his country in WWII and the Korean War. He lived most of his life in New Orleans where he enjoyed Boy Scouting as a youth, and later became a well-respected Scoutmaster. He also lived in Patterson, New Iberia and Baton Rouge. He worked his way up from an oil field hand to Assistant Plant Manager for Shell Oil Company. In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling, cruises, and ballroom dancing. Hap enjoyed volunteering for many years building homes for Habitat for Humanity in both New Iberia and Baton Rouge, and later volunteered at the Baton Rouge Habitat ReStore. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Hap was a kind, loving, honest, dependable, and hardworking husband, father, PaPa and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
We would like to thank the many caregivers who lovingly cared for him during his final months.
A Mass of Celebration of his life will be held at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Saturday, July 9 at 1:00 PM, followed by a gathering at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Habitat for Humanity.
Family and friends may sign the online guest book or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
