John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. H.T., more lovingly known by his family as PawPaw, was the most loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend anyone could have ever asked for. He loved driving cars, going on runs for various car dealerships, fishing, gardening, spending time with his family and his loyal companion, Casper. Pawpaw had a true passion for life and teaching others. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Coast Guard and graduate of Delta State University in MS. His career started at Ford Motor Company in Memphis, TN and he was a retiree of East Baton Rouge Parish School System. He was a devoted member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church, and the self proclaimed best noodeler of the North Delta. Pawpaw grew up in Water Valley, MS., and attended Jefferson Davis High school. He met and fell in love with his wife, Thelma Bunnie Castleman, while attending Delta State University and married on November 24th, 1950 in Belzoni, MS. The family grew, and the journey to South Louisiana came in 1966 where their roots have been since. Preceded in death by his parents Frank Love Hughes and Willie Rounsaville Hughes, his brothers Leon Hughes, his identical twin Cleo Hughes, Robert Hughes, Edward Hughes, Gene Hughes and sister Laverne Hood. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Bunnie Castleman Hughes, his two daughters Paula Hughes Sisson and husband Vaughan, Sharon Hughes Thorning and husband Johnny 5 grandchildren Ryan Sisson, wife Shelley, Hallie Sisson Delaney, husband Kevin, Megan Sisson Romano, husband Chad, Leighton Thorning and Jonathan Thorning 6 greatgrandchildren Brian, Reagan, Sarah Kate Sisson and Finnan, Tallulah, Meabh Delaney. Visitiation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5pm8pm. Visiting will resume at the funeral home on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 12pm until service at 1:30pm. Pallbearers are Vaughn Sisson, Johnny Thorning, Ryan Sisson, Jonathan Thorning, Kevin Delaney and Chad Romano. Honorary pallbearers are John Pilgreen, Curtis Reeves, Robert Harbor, Vernon Thorning, and Sam Locerio. The family would love to express their sincerest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Dileo, Dr. Labert , Dr. Moraes, Dr. Lo, and to all other caregivers that have assisted with the care of our Pawpaw. We are so blessed to have loved and been loved by PawPaw. Family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to following charities, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, American Heart Association, St. Jude Childrens Hospital, and S.O.A.R. Strengthening Outcomes with Autism Resources. Timothy 2:68, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
