Hella Karin Ruppel Carreca, age 82, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed peacefully and with a smile on her face at 10:30 a.m. Thursday August 5, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Post Polio Syndrome. She was a loving dedicated wife, mother, grandmother “Oma” great-grandmother and a true friend to many.
She was born in Weilberg, Germany, Feburary 8, 1939. Lived and worked as a nurse in Heidleberg, Germany before meeting the love of her life there, Basil Carreca.
She was one of the first members of the German’s Lady Club in Baton Rouge, worked as a Nurse, volunteered as a scout leader, and loved gardening. She was proud to be sworn in as an American citizen.
Hella will be greatly missed by her husband Basil Carreca; two brothers, Otto and Robert; sister-in-law Beate; two sons, Stephan and Michael; daughter-in-law, Hope; nephews, Klaus, Jurgen, Michael and Christiafer; grandchildren, Meghan, Skyler, and Ryan; step-grandchildren, Thomas “TJ“ and Falon; great grandchild, Alaina and the rest of the family.
Preceded in death by her parents, Friedrich Ruppel and Emma Weber Ruppel; and sister, Liselotte Ruppel Samide.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. until services at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul’s in Hella Carreca’s name.
