Hazel Velma Jones Gaar passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the age of 91 She was a native of Gaars Mill in Winn Parish and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Jefferson Highway from 12 noon until religious service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 2 conducted by Rev. David Goza and Rev. Tommy French. Interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory will follow. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and cherished friend of all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Jefferson Baptist Church with a true servant spirit. She loved home and gardening and was known for her beautiful flowerfilled yard. She was a great cook and excellent seamstress who willingly shared her creations with others. However, she was best known for her spontaneous wit and wisdom that brought a smile to all who knew her. In earlier years, she worked in retail at Daltons and D.H. Holmes, and was a seamstress at J.C. Pennys. She was a popular operator with a local answering service and served as a longtime elections official until her recent illness. She is survived by her daughter and soninlaw, Glenda Lofton, Ph.D. and husband, Tommy Lofton son and daugherinlaw, David Gaar, M.D. and Charlotte Shields Gaar grandsons, Bret Lofton and his wife, Cindy Bart Lofton and his wife, Michelle, Ira Gaar and his wife Brandee, Noah Gaar, Micah Gaar, M.D., granddaughter, Laini Gaar, M.D. great grandchildren, Megan Lofton, Samuel Lofton, Olivia Lofton, Zachary Lofton, Emma Gaar, Hannah Gaar, and Lily Gaar sisters known as the Jones girls Elois Jones Folkes, Eileen Jones Thomas, LaVerne Jones Osborn and her husband, Richard Osborn numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Nikki. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Osey Jones and Rosa Belle Worner Jones her grandfather, John Worner her uncle and aunt, Ira and Mary Lou Worner who helped rear her after the early death of her father. Pallbearers will be David Gaar, Ira Gaar, Bret Lofton, Bart Lofton, Samuel Lofton, John Osborn, Bill Fletcher, and Jay Babin. The family would like to give special thanks to her longtime physician, Dr. Michael Rolfsen, the staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Lofton StaffingFlexMed and the caring and supportive sitters they provided over the past year, members of Jefferson Baptist Church who visited and encouraged her, and two special friends who brightened her life, Johnnie Rallinson and Sharyn Lithgoe.
