Harry Gene Roberts, Sr. passed away on March 12, 2013 surrounded by his family at the AMG Hospital in Denham Springs at the age of 85. Born June 25, 1927 in Belfry, Kentucky, Harry Red Roberts was the seventh of ten children born to the late John and Cora Roberts, and had been a Baton Rouge resident for the past 45 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty June Roberts a daughter, Suzanne Roberts of Baton Rouge a son, Harry Gene Roberts, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Prairieville and three grandsons Keith Andrew Roberts, Alan Michael Roberts and Brant Mathew Roberts. Also surviving are three sisters and a brother, Jackie Tucker of Georgetown, Ohio Shirley Sloas and husband Leonard of Franklin Furnace, Ohio Nell Barnett and husband Paul of Ashland, Kentucky and Franklin Roberts and wife, Virginia of Glencoe, Missouri. As a member of The Greatest Generation, Harry served in the Navy during WWII after convincing his father to allow him to enlist at the tender age of 17. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor with Allied Chemical of Geismar, and worked as a Maintenance Scheduler, Planner and Bid Developer for many years following his initial retirement. He was also a lifelong deeply dedicated Kentucky Wildcats fan. Harry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and leaves behind many friends from his lifetime in Baton Rouge. He was greatly loved, and he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will resume on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
