Harry Bridges

July 21, 1918 — August 9, 2008

Harry Lewis Bridges passed away on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at age 90. He was born in Atlanta on July 21, 1918, and was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret Bridges. After graduating from Fulton High School in 1936, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1937 to 1940. Harry began his military service in 1941. He was a member of the Governor's Horse Guard, 108th Calvary, 101st Anti-Aircraft National Guard in 1942 and 78th Infantry Division U.S. Army sergeant, U.S. Army Air Forces and U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was assigned to Army intelligence on surveillance of suspected groups plotting against the United States. He was discharged on Dec. 3, 1945. While serving in the military, Harry met and married the love of his life, Juanita Drum Bridges. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years; a daughter, Bonny Bridges Stafford and her husband, Curtis K. Stafford; sister, Betty Bridges Corrie; three grandchildren, Kimberly Johnson, Paige Lohman and her husband, Glen Lohman, and Zachary Stafford and his wife, Kristin Nelson Stafford; seven great-grandchildren, Murphy Johnson, Cecile Johnson, Rose Johnson, Sam Lohman, Susannah Lohman, Nelson Stafford and Emerson Stafford; two nephews, Casey Corrie and Clint Corrie; and a niece, Claire Corrie Mays. Preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kendall Bridges Stafford; and nephew, Clay Corrie. Harry was employed for 43 years by Bell Telephone System as an engineer and retired in 1981 and moved to Amelia Island, Fla., and then to Baton Rouge. Harry Bridges was a wonderful man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. A special thank you to Ruth Ambrose and Lakewood Quarters for their loving care. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home chapel, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 1:30 p.m. until service at 2:30 p.m. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
