On Friday, April 24, 2009, at 6 p.m. at his home in Baton Rouge, Harold William Mele Jr. died peacefully and is with his Savior. Hal was a generous, active and fun-loving man who will be missed by all who knew him. He deeply loved his family and friends. He retired as manager of Port Allen and Reserve operations of Cargo Carriers, a subsidiary of Cargill. Hal will be remembered for his love of golf, boating with his friends, and working in his yard. He could fix anything. He was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana now ULL in Lafayette. He was born in New Orleans on April 19, 1940. At the age of 8, he moved to Weeks Island and has lived in Baton Rouge for the past 43 years. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. Hal is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan; daughter, Elizabeth Beth Meyer and her husband, Richard, of Prospect, Ky.; son, David Mele and his wife, Jennifer, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Grace and Grant Mele and Katherine and Thomas Meyer; niece, Dr. Kathryn Beauchamp and her husband, John Rumph, and their children, Jack, Julie, Joey, Jeffrey and Jane, of Denver; nephew, Stephen Beauchamp, of Creve Coeur, Mo.; an aunt, Elsie D. Allbritton, of River Ridge; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold and Grace Mele; and twin sister, Carol Beauchamp Malloy, who was of Clayton, Mo. Visiting will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, April 29, from 12:30 p.m. until service at 2 p.m. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The Rev. Hawley Wolfe and the Rev. Harriet Cale will conduct the service. Pallbearers will be Bill Crawford, Don Dugas, Randy Ellis, Art Ordoyne, Alan Savoie and Bob Wooten.
