Gwendolyn Ruffino, age 92, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 12:15 AM.
Gwen was born on February 23, 1929 in Mount Hermon, Louisiana, to her parents, Otto and Allean Carson. She graduated in 1948 from Mount Hermon, and got married to Joe Ruffino in 1949.
Gwen was a Breast Cancer survivor of more than 43 years. She enjoyed cruises, bus trips and playing slots at the casino. She also enjoyed working at Morgan Lindsey, Modern Shoe Store, Woolco and Sam’s, where she met many new and old friends. She was proud to be a part of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center working with the National Institute of Aging (NIA) in 2013.
Gwen is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Divincenti and her husband, Sam Wayne Divincenti, Sr.; grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Divincenti and her fiancé, Rob Cole, and Sammy Wayne Divincenti, Jr. and his wife, Samantha; great grandchildren Karlee, Sophia, Ava, Emilia, Lola, and Sam III; and three sisters, Jerilyn Dot Riley, Bettie Bermudez, Garbon Waguespack (Arthur).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Ruffino of 59 years, who passed away June 7, 2008 at 79 years young; her beloved parents, Allean and Otto Carson; nephew, Robert Ruffino; siblings, John Carson, Felder Carson, Wenell Isaac Carson, Fay Carson Westfall Nelson, Dorothy Carson Martinez, and Billy Monroe Carso
Pallbearers will include Billy Smith, Robert Draughon, Colby Draughon, Sammy W. Divicenti, Jr., Anthony Ruffino, and Louis S. Ruffino, III. Honorary pallbearers will include the families of Ruffino, Divincenti, and Carson.
The last remaining corner stone of the Ruffino family is Louis Ruffino, Jr., who holds the family together.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Gwen’s name.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70816, on April 17, 2021, from 12:30 PM until services at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery.
