A resident of Baton Rouge and native of Independence, he died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at 5:50 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 82 and a U.S. Army veteran, a sergeant with the 138th Antiaircraft Artillery Group Japan and in the Korean War. Visiting at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, on Friday, June 18, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gerard Martin. Recitation of the rosary on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by two sons, Greg Guzzardo and wife Cathy, Gary Guzzardo and wife Dana daughter, Jacquelyn G. Bergeron sister, Virginia Henderson and husband George two brothers, Sam John Guzzardo and wife Jenny, Mike Guzzardo and wife Virginia four grandchildren, Zachary Leonard Guzzardo, Thomas Murray III, Jason Gregory Guzzardo and Jan Strickland and greatgrandchild, Destiny Threadgill. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosland June Clement Guzzardo father, John Sam Guzzardo mother, Maggie Spitale Guzzardo sister, Josephine G. Levatino and brother, Joseph John Guzzardo. Pallbearers will be Jason Gregory Guzzardo, Tommy Murray III, Zachary Leonard Guzzardo, Lance Wall, William E. Clements Jr. and Johnny Guzzardo. Honorary pallbearers are Barbara Clement Toural, J.B. Kidd and Lowell Rahn. Gussie was a family man who always put others first. He was the cornerstone of the Guzzardo family that came from almost nothing during the Depression and made the most of everything. Gussie enjoyed his life the most by celebrating it with his immediate family and tending to his prolific garden. Papa was a buddy and great adviser who always wanted the best for everyone and will remain in our hearts every day of our lives.
