Gustave Irby Broussard was born in Church Point, LA on January 4, 1927 and died peacefully on February 2, 2015 at home in Baton Rouge.
He met and wed Geraldine Walker in Texas City, TX. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in Korea at the end of World War II. G.I., as he is known to many, retired from a successful paint contracting business. He made his mark as a true craftsman working with A. Hays Town and others on many custom homes in the area. He was a faithful member of St. Gerard and St. George parishes, an usher, a loyal LSU fan, and an avid fisherman. G.I. had a wonderful sense of humor, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored, and was adored, by his large family.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Geraldine Walker Broussard; children and their spouses Katherine and Craig Reves, Paul and Laurie Broussard, Keith and Jamie Broussard, Francis Broussard, John Broussard and Kathleen Callaghan, and Margaret and Bill Millard. He is also survived by his brother Edwin and his wife Ethelee; sister-in-law, Ruby Broussard; and by 18 grandchildren and step grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cesaire and Odile Broussard; and 9 brothers and sisters.
