Gregg Nelson

February 11, 1953 — March 19, 2009

The son of the late Gunner E. Nelson died at 2:22 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospital. He was 56, a resident of Iowa City and a native of Iowa. He was a participant in the Reach for Your Potential program in Iowa City, Iowa, and participated in numerous Special Olympics, having won many medals. He loved Batman and liked food and music, especially his involvement with West Music's Sound Reach Program. Gregg also loved to travel. Graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory on Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m., conducted by Dr. John Goodwin and Dr. Jarrett Banks. Survived by his mother, Betty Nelson, of Baton Rouge; brother, Gunner Nelson and wife Mary Anne, of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two sisters, Lisa Nelson Stanley and husband Mark, of Baytown, Texas, and Terri Nelson Crifasi and husband Jeff, of Baton Rouge; four nephews, Michael Nelson, Christopher Stanley, Nicholas Stanley and Thomas Crifasi; niece, AnnElisa Stanley and many friends and other relatives. A celebration of Gregg's life, led by Dr. Doug Williams, was held Saturday, March 21, at Coralville United Methodist Church, Coralville, Iowa, where Gregg was a member. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Coralville United Methodist Church, 806 13th Ave., Coralville, Iowa, 52241 or a charity of choice.
