Give me the strength and skill to overcome all obstacles, watch over me until I return home. Firemans Prayer. Glenn passed away at age 69 on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, after a lengthy illness. He was a retired deputy fire chief with the Baton Rouge Fire Department with 32 years service. He became the first emergency medical technician instructor in Baton Rouge and was also an instructor of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and a fire service instructor with LSU involving all forms of rescue. He was twice awarded Fireman of the Year for saving childrens lives. He was the recipient of the Charles Dunbar award for Outstanding Public Service. He was always there to help in need. He enjoyed cooking and won several contests locally and in other states. Some of his recipes are published today. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Helminger two daughters and their spouses, Janice and Rocky Hope, of Prairieville, and Vicki and David Pizzuto, of Gonzales five granddaughters a greatgranddaughter three stepchildren and their spouses, Tommy and Dara Smith, of Watson, Linda and Mitchell Cabrera, of Baton Rouge, and Debbie and John Bertrand, of Denham Springs nine stepgrandchildren a brother, Donald Helminger, of Mansura a sister, Myra Rabalais, of Shreveport and motherinlaw, Mary Louise Lambert, of Monticello, Miss. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years, Peggy Helminger parents, Roland and Anna Ruth Helminger and a stepson, Jerry Smith. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Oct. 7, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m., conducted by Dr. Tommy Middleton. Additional visitation to follow. A very heartfilled thanks to the caretakers from St Joseph Hospice, David Waite, RN, and Emma Turner, LPN, who did an outstanding job. Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
