Gladys Kahl

Gladys Meche Kahl passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the age of 95. Gladys is survived by her sons, John Courville (Patty), Jerry Courville (Angie), Aaron Courville (Bridget), Kevin Courville (Monica), and Craig Courville (Traci); by her stepchildren Marvin Kahl, Jr. (Gloria) and Ann Kahl Trautwein; siblings Jane Lagrange Meche (sister-in-law), Beverly Lagrange (Lloyd), Larry Meche (Diane), Lean Sibley (Buddy); by her 16 grandchildren,  Kellie Maranto (Tony), Chad Courville (Tara), Brian Courville (Debra), Ashley Andrew (Andy), Blaine Courville (Ashley), Brandie Mitchell (Taylor), Brent Courville (Rachel), Brittany Cangelosi, Rheagan Branton (James), Ryan Courville, Claire Wilson (Ben), Jill Applegate (Landon), Taylor Courville, Abby Courville, Mary Weston Courville and Jake Courville; and by 22 great grandchildren. A special thanks to all those who lovingly cared for Gladys during her final days including Nora, Nancy and Tom, Sophie, and the amazing nurses at Clarity Hospice.

She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Kahl, by her son Harlyn Courville, by her great granddaughter Marcella Grace Courville, and by her siblings John Meche, Marvin Meche, Eula Mae Artigue and Bradley Meche, and by her parents, Remi and Eleanor Meche.

Gladys was a native of Arnaudville, Louisiana and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, where she retired from Baton Rouge General Hospital in 1982.    Gladys was a devout Christian and an enduring source of care, support, and homemade Cajun food for her many friends and for four generations of the Courville family.  A true matriarch, through decades of selfless devotion, she fostered a familial legacy that will carry on through both her classic recipes and indomitable spirit.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and funeral at Resthaven Gardens and Memory Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.   Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  A rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service and burial.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9191 Bluebonnet Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA  70810.
