On May 17, 2022, Virginia “Ginger” May Duncan, age 79, went to her eternal resting place. Born March 31, 1943 in Livingston, La Ginger resided many years in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, but her years in Blowing Rock, NC were her most cherished.
Born near the banks of Hog Branch, she was a country girl destined to travel the world and become an authority in fashion and home design. Her years at Doyle High were spent playing basketball, designing and sewing her clothes, winning Livingston Parish Fair queen and going on to become a finalist in the 1961 Miss Louisiana pageant.
She studied political science and marketing at LSU and went on to develop and build more than 100 homes in the Baton Rouge region. Later, Ginger owned and operated Holiday-Rent-A-Car. Then she spent the majority of her career as Advertising Director and Senior Account Executive for The Times of Acadiana newspaper in Lafayette.
Upon retiring to Blowing Rock, she spent much of her time traveling the world and planning social events with friends. Her favorite being the annual hydrangea ball. Bridge became her passion. She played until the day she died and was close to reaching life master. Ginger was generous in every way and loved giving time to local charities such as; The Blowing Rock Hospital fashion show, opening her home for the Episcopal Church Tour of Homes fundraiser, and countless more.
Ginger loved her family and grandchildren. She had a way of approaching life that made her beautiful both inside and out. She was intelligent, spirited, elegant, perceptive, witty, matter of a fact, a football enthusiast and holds no punches with a southern charm. Her flair for fashion and decor was exquisite, and she could pull off what most people can’t. She was a loyal and true friend through all seasons of life and knew how to navigate life with strength and calm while having great wit and humor, but most of all, she had a big heart. Ginger was “one of a kind” and will be missed by all.
She is survived by son Troy Jones; daughter Lisa Hudman Tozer; brother Edward and Linda May; sister Betty and Ronnie Rosenson; grandchildren Chase and Jena Jones, Zachary Jones, Nicholas Jones, Alexandra Jones, Owen Tozer and Seth Tozer; great grandchildren Hadley Jones and Berkley Jones; niece Candace May Thibodeaux; nephews Joel Watkins and Bryan May; along with many great nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
