A resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Baton Rouge, he died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 86 and a native of Diamond Head, Miss. He was a graduate of LSU and a retired colonel with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He served in the 505th Engineer Light Pontoon Company, 308th Construction Battalion. He was on a landing ship tank that landed at Normandy on the third day of the D-Day Invasion. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. until memorial service in the chapel at 10 a.m. There will be a private burial at St. George Catholic Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sophie and Maurice Winker and Valerie Foster and Rupert Fersch; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathryn Moore; seven grandchildren, Naomi, Nicole, Megan, Benjamin, Leigh, Michael and Jessica; and seven great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Chelsea, Sean, Austin, Ella, Ike and Madison. Preceded in death by his wife, Marie B. Moore; granddaughter, Natalie Breaux; two brothers, William and Henry Moore; and sister, Mary Ramos. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Memorial donations can be made to the Louisiana War Veterans Home, 4739 La. 10, Jackson, LA 70748 or a local VFW post.
