Gertie Cornelius

Gertie Dupre Cornelius, 80, a resident of Prairieville, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Daughter of the late August and Julia Dupre, she was a retiree of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board where she worked as an aide for special needs children on the school bus. She loved to crochet and did so almost daily. She loved her family dearly and raised all four of her children as a widow she was truly a remarkable woman. Gertie will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie E. Cornelius and daughter Rebecca Becky Skidmore. She is survived by her brothers, Charles Dupre and Ken Dupre, her two daughters: Jeannie Hackworth husband Steve, and Wanda Waite her son, Darrell Cornelius wife Linda, soninlaw, Greg Skidmore and nephew, Chris Dupre wife Brianne. Gertie has ten grandchildren: Marc Skidmore, Kristina Johnson husband Bo, Brandon Waite wife Gwen, Kelly Hackworth, Leslie Bercegeay husband Blane, Reese Hackworth, Lauren Denoux husband Justin, Tori Waite fianc Ricky Bourgeois, Nick Waite, and Cavin Skidmore. Gertie has four greatgrandchildren: Hailey Waite, Hope Johnson, Ganin Bercegeay, and Jake Johnson. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 11 am until funeral service at 1 PM. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
