Gerri R. Hughes

Geraldine (Gerri) Hughes passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024, at the age of 84, at The Carpenter House where her devoted husband of over 50 years, Kenneth Hughes, was by her side.

Gerri was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Joseph Young, “J.Y.” and Josephine (Cashio) Ragusa.  Shortly thereafter, they relocated to Baton Rouge where Gerri was a graduate of Istrouma High School.  Gerri always had many friends and was loved by anyone and everyone she met. 

Gerri spent many years working for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and over 30 years as Administrative Assistant to the East Baton Rouge District Attorney before her retirement. She loved dancing, playing bridge, and slots. There was nothing she loved more in this world than her friends and family.

Gerri was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her adoring husband Kenneth Hughes; siblings, Jo E. O’Neill, Brigham Ragusa, and Don Ragusa; sons (by previous marriage to Pete Goff Sr), Pete Jr., Ricky and Steve Goff, and his wife Madalyn Goff; grandchildren Nicholas Goff, Morgan Baylor, Ashley Graham, Katie Goff, Claire Goff, Ashlyn Guglielmo, Lauryn Goff, Annie Kate Simms, Jackson Simms, Hayden Simms; and their spouses Wesley Baylor, Stefin Graham, Samuel Prescott, Ross Guglielmo; great grandchildren, Harper Guglielmo, Beau Baylor and Eston Graham, with a fourth great grandchild due in April.

Her pallbearers for the services are Wesley Baylor, Stefin Graham, Samuel Prescott, Ross Guglielmo, Trevor Ragusa, Moe Eutremont, and honorary pallbearers are nephews, Raph O’Neill, and Randy Goff, who she always considered her fourth son.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge on Saturday March 23, 2024, from 9am-11am. The service will begin at 11 a.m.
