George Tanoos

A retired systems engineer with IBM and retired owner of Georgetown, Inc., he died at 1:15 am, Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was 89 years old, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Bayou Goula. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II having served with the 1266th Combat Engineers in the European Theater of Operations. He attended Purdue University, Louisiana State University and Southeastern Louisiana University graduating with a B.A. in Social Sciences.

Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, 70816 on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with Recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 pm. Visitation to continue at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 10:00 am and Resurrection Mass scheduled at 11:00 am with Reverend Jerry Martin, celebrant. Entombment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.

Survived by his devoted wife Verna Jones Tanoos, a stepson Frank Carron, Jr. and his wife Mary of Pensacola, Florida a stepdaughter Leah Sibert and her husband Michael of Ankeny, Iowa a stepgrandson Morgan Beck, Jr. two stepgranddaughters, Holiday Fagan and Josephine Sibert two sisters, Marian Tanoos Callahan of Houston and Gloria Tanoos George of Thibodaux and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ellis and Elizabeth Tanoos three brothers Ernest and Joseph Tanoos and Dr. Frank Tanoos and one sister Dorothy Tanoos Dunaway.
