George T. Reed, Jr.

George Thomas Reed, Jr., age 85, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Tuesday, July 11^th, 2023.

George was born March 7^th, 1938, in Pickens, Mississippi, to parents George, Sr. and Elizabeth Reed. After his high school graduation, George became a member of the Mississippi  Air National Guard. He later moved to Baton Rouge, where he graduated from LSU in the class of 1969. He had a long career in the HVAC industry, which included being a branch manager of Johnson Controls for over 30 years, as well as founding his own company, Louisiana Controls, Inc. in 1981. He served as the president of his company until his retirement in 2005. George had a life-long interest in aviation. He earned his private pilot’s license and eventually built his own glider aircraft, which he enjoyed flying for many years. He was an avid LSU fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his Tigers. George had a special love for his family and dearly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up over the years. He attended many birthday parties, sporting events, dance recitals and graduations for each of them and he was especially looking forward to the upcoming weddings of two of his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Toni, daughter Cheryl and spouse Kaleen of Third Lake,IL, son Tommy and spouse Suzanne of Gonzales, LA, grandson Ben Robinson and spouse Colette of Grayslake, IL, grandson Jordan Richards of Denver, CO, grandson TJ Reed and fiancé Madeleine Templet and granddaughter Angie Reed and fiancé Chris Carlin of Gonzales, LA,  granddaughters  Bryanna Richards and Kamrynn Richards of Third Lake, IL and great-granddaughters, Layla, Alana and Talia Robinson of Grayslake, IL.  

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Janice Reed, his parents George and Elizabeth Reed, and two brothers, Meador and Radford Reed. 

Visitation will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Saturday, July 15^th, 2023 from 9:00 – 11:00 am until services begin at 11:00. A graveside service will immediately follow.
