A native of Sommerville, S.C., he died at 4 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at his home in Zachary. He was 90, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retiree of Miller-Terrell Buick with more than 40 years of service. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, March 20, from 9 a.m. until service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife, Zelda Yarbrough Hoelz; two stepdaughters, Gail Browning and husband Chris, Lebanon, Tenn., and Celia Duckworth and husband Hunter, Odenton, Md.; a stepson, Wayne Kent and wife, Carol, Clinton; sister, Martha Hohmeirer; a brother, William Hoelz and wife Mary, Sommerville; grandchild, Stephanie Heldt; six stepgrandchildern, Lauren Kent, Kevin Duckworth, Keith Duckworth, Karen Bryan, Chad Browning and Craig Browning; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Connor Hartman; Kali Browning and Austin Duckworth. Preceded in death by daughter, Martha Hoelze; and parents, John and Maybell Hoelz. Memorial donations can be made to 4264 Capital Heights Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806. The family thanks all the sitters and St. Joseph Hospice for the care they gave to George. Their kindness and support will always be remembered.
