George Neal Grammer, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. He was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Benton, Louisiana.
After graduation from Benton High School, he earned his undergraduate degree at Northwestern in Natchitoches, LA. George then graduated from LSU with a Masters degree and a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics in Baton Rouge, LA. After graduation from LSU, George was recruited to work for Ethyl Corporation and ultimately grew in responsibility as a Development Associate in the PVC Tech Center. He later leveraged his vast experience and knowledge in the PVC sector with Georgia Pacific and Georgia Gulf. George was a member of University United Methodist Church for almost 70 years and served on several leadership initiatives. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, biking, and woodworking.
George was married to Martha Jane Ivey Grammer, whom he first met when they were in elementary school in Benton, LA. They were married for 60 years until her passing in 2015. His four children and their spouses are Walter Grammer and wife Cathy, Neal Grammer and wife Fern, Todd Grammer and wife Lanya, and Jane Ivey Pestovic and husband John Pestovic. His 11 grandchildren are Katelin Grammer, Caroline Grammer, Daniel Grammer, Caroline Uffman Lagneaux, Rachel Grammer Peterson, Anne Claire Grammer, Madeline Uffman Stutzman, Cole Uffman, William Grammer, Lauren Grammer, and Peyton Grammer. He was also blessed with 5 great-grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his parents, George Cornelius Grammer, and Corinne Rinner Adams.
He is also preceded in death by his sister, Francine Grammer Smith. George enjoyed a special friendship with Carol Calhoun.
Visitation will be at 10:30 AM, lasting until the 11:00 AM memorial service on Friday, May 28, at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge. The memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Ken Irby.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
