George Farr

October 28, 1935 — April 23, 2016

George was born in Puerto Cabacez, Nicaragua, October 28, 1935, to Kathryn Alice Kerr Farr and Charles Kavanaugh Farr, Sr., where they, along some of their relatives and friends, continued their adventurous careers in the fruit and banana, exotic woods, and mining businesses; leaving Central America only after the Communist Sandinistas began taking control of Nicaragua in the early 1970's.

George, along with his siblings, was taught elementary school by his mother, a certified teacher. He then came back to the United States to attend Christ School in North Carolina, graduated Mississippi State University, and joined the Army. His career led him first to the building materials business and then to insurance sales, from which he retired.

George is a master woodworker but his vast talents preclude trying to list all his achievements. For the past several years he has enjoyed part of his time working as a volunteer at Rural Life Museum where he met many more never to be forgotten friends. For them, we are also thankful.

George is survived by his wife, Leah Farr; his brother, Charles Kavanaugh Farr, Jr., wife Mary; his sisters, Alice Farr Pfeiffer, husband Dick and Virginia Farr Reeg, husband John; his children and stepchildren, George Baine Farr, Jr., wife Kiki, Leah Michelle Farr, Melissa Kimball Passini, husband Eddie, and Monica Kimball Singer Murphy, husband Brian; his grandchildren, #1 Leah Katherine Farr, Lucy Mae Passini, Shannon Murphy, Sean Murphy, Hailey Farr, and Cameron Farr.

George also fondly remembers many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, among them Dr. John Prestigiacomo, who stuck with him through thick and thin, never giving up. For that, he, too, will always be remembered.

Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at The LSU Rural Life Museum Chapel followed by his service at 2:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to Rural Life Museum, Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
