Gaylon Dighton, age 79, passed away on September 11, 2016. Born February 21, 1937 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Aaron and Jewell Dighton.
He was married to his college sweetheart, the former Lois Maurine Smith of Vinita, Oklahoma on December 22, 1957. They were long time residents of Baton Rouge. A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and Baylor University, he authored several technical articles and received 12 U.S. Patents prior to retiring from the Dow Chemical Company with 31 years of service. He was an ex-member of the American Chemical Society, American Society for Quality Control, and a Senior Member Emeritus of the Society of Plastics Engineers. In college he was elected a member of several honor societies, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Tau Delta, Kappa Delta Phi, and Theta Alpha Phi. He was a deacon for over 30 years and a Bible teacher. After retiring he wrote numerous inspirational and human interest articles and several books. "Consider the Lilies" and "Lights Along The Shore" are collections of daily inspirations drawn from his personal experiences. "Light" is a treatise on what Jesus included from a scientific perspective when he said He was the Light. "Abigail's Tale" is a historical fiction account of the life of Christ as seen through the eyes of a donkey. Mr. Dighton served on the National Development Board for Oklahoma Baptist University and the board of Employment Development Services, the non-profit organization chartered by the State of Louisiana to help provide jobs to the disabled.
Gaylon was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine. Survived by; two sons and their wives, John Christopher and Jennifer Lynne Dighton of Ethel, LA and David Craig and Alice Dighton of Franklin, TN.; six grandchildren, Joshua Paul (Amy) Dighton, Caleb Craig (Alicia) Dighton, John Aaron (Deana) Dighton, Emily Grace (Steven) Forbes, Garrison Calmer Dighton, and Elisabeth Jewell Dighton; and great-grandchildren, Nate, Kate and Emmett, Adele, Chloe and Felicity, and Knox.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816, Saturday, September 17 from 9:00am until Memorial Services at 11:00. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in The Garden of the Good Shepherd. Rev. Ken Carroll officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Aaron L. Dighton Memorial Science Scholarship at Oklahoma Baptist University or the Jewell M. Dighton Memorial Scholarship at Louisiana College.
