She graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) with a major in Education in 1968.

She was well known for showering her young students with love and affection and was often approached by former students with remarks of appreciation. She loved animals, especially poodles and over the years, her many pets brought her joy. Gayle also loved Saints and LSU Football. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church for many years. She and her husband moved to Baton Rouge, La in 2016 where they became members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
