And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. I John 2:25. Gary Lee Maher, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed through death to life eternal with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet from complications associated with cancer. He was 58 and a native of New Orleans. Gary was a devoted, loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. His family was his pride and joy and they remained at his side throughout his illness. His great sense of humor, strength and willingness to help others will truly be missed by all who knew him. Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Judy Brown Maher; two sons, Sean P. Maher and wife Julie Star, and Eric B. Maher and fiance Angelle Prejean; grandson and light of his eyes, Brandon Patrick Maher; brother-in-law, Gene Brown; nieces and nephews, Dodi and John Faneca and Erica and Timothy Brown. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Frank Joseph Maher; mother, Bernadine Gloria Couvillan; and only sister, Kathleen, and her husband John Faneca. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and service in the chapel on Thursday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pennington Cancer Center or American Cancer Society. Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.- Anon.
