Gary Laney

August 12, 1969 — December 23, 2016

Gary Michael Laney, age 47, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on December 23, 2016.

Gary graduated with a Bachelors Degree from McNeese University. He was an American Press Sports Writer for 28 years. He covered sports from Beaumont, TX to Baton Rouge, LA with clear, fact-filled reporting for years. After American Press Sports, Gary went on to work for ESPN and other digital media covering LSU and the SEC. He also helped so many families as a Real-Estate Agent through the home buying process. Gary and Jessie helped with the 2016 flood by doing boat rescues.

He is survived by his mother, Josette Aline Laney; his sister, Cynthia Juliet Laney; his brother, Mark William Laney and sister-in-law, Lauren Laney; his former wife, Therese Simon; his nephews, Connor and Jack Laney; Bernie Simon; and other numerous family members.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, William Earl Laney; his uncle, Stuart Laney; and his aunt, Danielle Celine Bryson.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 2:00pm until funeral service at 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Capital Area Animal Welfare Society and Friends of the Animals Dog Adoption House.
