Gary Alfred Hinz passed away November 9, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body dementia.
He was born May 2, 1943, in Litchfield, Illinois to Alfred and Helen Hinz. A 1961 graduate of Mt. Olive High School in Mt. Olive, Illinois, he continued his education graduating from the University of Missouri at Rolla in Mechanical Engineering BS (1964) and MS (1965).
He worked his entire career at Ethyl Corporation, which later became Albemarle Corporation, traveling the world. He retired as Director of Engineering Services in 2007.
Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved fast cars, motorcycles, duck hunting and fishing. He was the neighborhood handyman and was always repairing something until the later stage of his Parkinson's. Gary will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years Sharra Ebert Hinz; daughters, Mary Ann Ayres (Blaine) and Ellie Hinz Brown; grandchildren, Brady Ayres, Teagan Ayres, Zoe Brown, Tucker Brown and Andie Brown; and brother, William C. Hinz (Karen).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank Christina Griffin, Torina Moore, Michelle Bindon, Rikitta Talbert, Lawanda Cook, and nurse Amber Vicari for the years of love and care they gave to Gary, and a special thanks to Compassus Hospice for their expertise and kindness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory with a reception in the funeral home afterward for relatives and friends.
