The family of Gary E. Alexander Jr. would like to inform the community of his death on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at age 66. He died peacefully at home with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary E. Alexander Sr. He is survived by his wife, Bettye Butcher Alexander mother, Shirley Peters Alexander only child, Kara Alexander Vidrine and husband Chris and two grandchildren, Audrey Vidrine and Thomas Vidrine. He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Alexander Bond and husband Chris Bond, Phyllis Alexander Shirey, and Jeanie Alexander Latiolais and husband Bobby and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was born in Poplarville, Miss., on Dec. 11, 1944. He was a graduate of Bogalusa High School, LSU and LSUs Paul M. Hebert School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and military policeman from 19641970 in both Vietnam and Germany. Gary practiced law in Baton Rouge for more than 25 years. He later became an entrepreneur and inventor, and had more than 20 U.S. patents under his name. He was an avid reader of history and had a vast knowledge of many topics, and an uncommon wit. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, son, brother, brotherinlaw, grandfather and friend. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him but we have all been blessed to have had him in our lives. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and medical staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for their valiant efforts to save Garys life over a period of numerous hospital visits. We would like to especially thank Dr. Joe Albergamo and Dr. Kevin Kilpatrick for going above and beyond their duties, and for being such compassionate caregivers and always keeping a positive outlook. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, April 20, from 10 a.m. until memorial service at 11 a.m.
