Freida Averett

Freida Tait Averett passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 2, 2015, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

She was born on August 29. 1927 in Saline, Louisiana, the only child of Douglas and Sue Tait. Freida graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School, attended Louisiana Tech University, and was an underwriter for Travelers Insurance. She married Rev. Clyde Averett on December 29, 1954 and joined him in ministry to both Baptist and Methodist congregations in Mississippi and Louisiana until their retirement to Bossier City, Louisiana in 1993. She enjoyed her family, cooking, bird watching, traveling, and taking care of her beloved toy poodles Jolie and Molly.

She and Clyde were married for 55 years before his death in 2010 She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Brent Laube and Sarah and Doug Picou. Grandchildren Aimee (Lt. Matthew Berniard, MD USN MC), Carley Picou, Samantha Picou, and Caroline Laube, Matthew (Michelle) Laube, and SSgt. Ryan Laube, USAF (Chelsea). Great grandchildren, Eloise, Colin and Brooke. Special friends Lisa Gable, and Margie Billodeaux.

Freida was a true Southern woman. She carried herself with a quiet dignity. Her calm quiet demeanor belying incredible inner strength and determination. She was the epitome of grace and compassion. Always appreciative of those that provided her comfort and care during her illness. It is with gratitude that we acknowledge the many special caregivers at The Haven and Ollie Steele Burden Manor, and Hospice of Baton Rouge.

A memorial service will be held September 18, 2015, at 5 p.m., with family visitation from 4 p.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 9375 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Reverend Sarah Shoup officiating. Donations may be made in her memory to The Louisiana Methodist Children and Family Services 904 Deville Lane, Ruston, LA 71270.
