Frederick "Fred" Joseph Connors, age 84, died on Wednesday, March 17th, at our Lady of the Lake Hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash.
Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bette L. Connors. Three children: Carolyn Staley, Michael (Jackie), Susan (Dan) Priddy; four grandkids: Craig (Kami) Patterson, Jamie (Ralph) Lehnert, Jake (Area) Fletcher, Rachel Connors; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Fred is a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. He earned the Purple Heart from injuries sustained while serving in the Vietnam War. He served honorably both in the Marines and Army for a total of 32 years of active duty, earning the rank of Command Sergeant Major (E-9). While in the service he earned many accommodations and service awards before he retired. He went on to work for the State of Louisiana for an additional 15 years before retiring from the Office of Risk Management. Fred was a loving caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who loved life, food (with plenty of ketchup) and sports (if he could bet on them).
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 28th, from 5 to 8 PM and Monday, March 29th, from 9 to 11 am at Resthaven Gardens of Memory located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 29th, at noon at St. Patrick's Catholic Church located at 12424 Brogdon Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 with military burial to follow at The Louisiana National Cemetery located at 303 W. Mount Pleasant Road, Zachary, LA 70791.
The pallbearers will be: Craig Patterson, Jake Fletcher, Gene Eddie Lockhart, Mike Todd Lockhart, Brent Lockhart and Lance Lockhart.
The family would like to request no flowers or food at this time. The family would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the following individuals/agencies who took such great care of Fred: Dr. Beau Clark, Mrs. Kristen Sibley, Cpl. James Pittman, Cpl. Brad Bennett, Lt. Johnnie Brown Jr., Sgt. Kathryn Slaughter, staff of EBR Coroner's Office, Officers of BRPD and LSP– Troop A.
