Freddie Joseph "Joey" McClendon, a native of Prairieville passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital at the age of 40.
Joey was born on October 15, 1974, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Freddie Joseph McClendon, Sr. and Sandra Shelton McClendon. He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1992 and then went on to graduate Cum Laude from Southeastern Louisiana University, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1999. He married his college sweetheart Ragan Gordon in 1997 and had two beautiful boys, Chase and Camron. After receiving his CPA and working for Blue Cross and Baton Rouge General Medical Center, he then went on to join the Firm of Faulk & Winkler, becoming partner in 2002. He was responsible for managing accounting and payroll service initiatives as well as providing consulting services to many of the firm's governmental agencies. He was an active member of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants and Rotary Club of Livingston Parish and a member of the Healing Place Church. Joey enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was active in Cub Scouts and enjoyed biking, golfing, and playing tennis. His outlook in life was "Life is busy, do your best to enjoy it and not let it pass you by." He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, and friends to all who knew him. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ragan Gordon McClendon; sons, Chase Joseph McClendon and Camron Neil McClendon; parents, Freddie Joseph McClendon, Sr. and Sandra Shelton McClendon; brothers, Darryl Dauson Cleveland, Jr. Brandon Joseph McClendon, Michael Gautreau, James Cleveland, and Ryan Cleveland; sister, Tanya Johnson; nieces and nephews, Heather Thompson Milligan, Victoria Cleveland Blough, Landon Cleveland, Christian McClendon, Jordan Johnson, Hannah Cleveland, Hart Cleveland, Kaitlyn Larzelere, Dylan Larzelere, David Cleveland, Kohl Cleveland, Taylor Gautreau, Brance Gann, Chipper Gann, Madelyn Cook, Matthew Cook, and Rebecca Cook; grandmother, Marie McClendon; uncles, Kenny Shelton and Marshall McClendon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Preston and Betty Gordon; sister-in-law, Carrie Cook; and brother-in-law, Alvin Cook.
Joey is preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Pearl Shelton, and Marshall McClendon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Healing Place Church, 19202 Highland Road from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Healing Place Church at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital
