A retired chemical engineer with Formosa Plastics, he died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was 63, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Norfolk, Va. He served in the U.S. Navy with the rank of lieutenant junior grade during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Medal. Memorial service at Metropolitan Community Church, 7747 Tom Drive, Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m., conducted by Pastor Keith Mozingo. Survived by his former wife, Gayle Yeatts Rowland father, Frank Monroe Sr. two sons, Jon Rowland and partner Becky Sandbach, and Adam and wife Amber Rowland two sisters, Carolyn Van Dusen and husband Gerald, and Janet Bowyer two brothers, James Rowland and wife Pattie, and Hugh Rowland and wife Michaeline Klob and grandson, Hunter Rowland. Preceded in death by his mother, Merla Adell Barbour Rowland. He received a chemical engineering degree with high distinction from the University of Virginia and was a member of Tau Beta Pi national engineering society. His hobbies were playing trivia, fishing, reading, photography and caring for his puppies.
