Frances Mae Collins Keene was born to Lorene C. Bunyard and Glen Collins on October 20, 1932, in Ft. Worth, TX.
Frances graduated from Carthage High School in 1950 and attended business college in Houston, TX, where she met and later married Marcus Keene in December 1952. Together they shared and enjoyed life for 67 years.
Frances is fondly known as ‘Mom’, ‘MeMe’ and ‘Aunt Frances’ to her two children, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly.
Marcus and Frances traveled extensively, their travels coming alive through her photos that are displayed throughout their home.
Other interests Frances enjoyed included playing the piano, square dancing, clogging, camping, playing softball and meeting with friends for food and fellowship. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver and loved watching her children and grandchildren grow and participate in their many activities.
Frances worked for the LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute and retired after many years of dedicated service. While there she served in many capacities, being very proficient in her administrative and office skills.
She fervently served her Lord through her daily walk and church affiliations with both Laurel Lea Baptist Church and Jefferson Baptist Church. She has been a member at Jefferson Baptist for the past twenty-six years and enjoyed membership in the Jackie Porta Sunday School Class. Frances shared her musical talents by singing in the church choir on many occasions.
Frances is preceded in death by, father, Glen Ward Collins; mother, Alice Lorene Bunyard; son, Mark Edward Keene; brother, Clifton Bunyard, Jr.; sister, Kathleen Clifton; brother-in-law, Harry Keene
She is survived by husband Marcus L. Keene; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and David Newman of Prairieville, La., son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rachel Keene of Baton Rouge, La.; grandchildren, Melissa Newman and Mark Newman and wife Bridget; great-grandchildren, Conner Newman, Paisley Newman and Stevie Smith; brothers, Robert Collins and Diane and Guy Bunyard and wife Jean; sisters, Blanche (Bee) Romanoff, Mary Bush and husband George, Patti Clark and husband John; sisters-in-law, Sheila Lyons and Frances Lawrence.
Visiting hours will take place at Jefferson Baptist Church, Saturday, January 26th from 9:00 am until service at 11:00 am. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge, La.
