Floyd Barbay

October 15, 1929 — September 9, 2021

Our heavenly Father welcomed Floyd home on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 3:25 PM at The Carpenter House, St. Joseph Hospice; he was 91. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend to many and former business founder and owner of Barbay Engineers, Inc.

Born in St. Rose, LA; lived in Baton Rouge all of his life except when Dolly accompanied him to Chateauroux, France for four years while he was stationed in the U.S. Air Force and to Biloxi, MS for a year. He was a graduate of lstrouma High School and Louisiana State University, obtaining a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He lived life to the fullest, entertaining with his family, friends and clients. However, what Floyd loved the most was dancing, whether it be zydeco, jitterbug or "cutting a rug" in the kitchen.

He was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, the Cajun French Music Association, Cruising Cajun's Motor Home Club, Amateur Ham Radio Operators and the Knights of Columbus.

Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Dolly Ann Bergeron Barbay; his parents Harry L. Barbay, Sr. and Eunice Zeringue Barbay Alex, (Bob), his second mom Mémère (Genevieve) two brothers Ward L. Barbay and Harry L. Barbay, Jr. and his grandson Michael L. Methvien; Joseph J. Bergeron, Sr., Vivian Thibodeaux Bergeron; Alberta Barbay LaBlanc, Glenda Barbay Larsen, Audrey Bergeron, Hazel and Herman McAndrew, Beverly and John Braud, Yvonne and George Cooper, DeEtte Bergeron, Jeanette and Elton "Larry" Couvillion, Joseph and Mary Ann Bergeron, and Russell Bergeron.

Floyd is survived by his three children, Randy Louis Barbay (Pam), Donna Barbay Methvien and Tammy Barbay Carrier; girlfriend, Shirley Waguespack; Grandchildren: Erica Badeaux (Kerry), Allyson Barbay (Ed Gsell), Garrett Barbay, Victor Methvien, Jr., Natalie Carrier Kozanek (Michal) and Jacquelyn Carrier Miller (Korey); Great grandchildren: Elijah, Ari Ann, and Quinn Badeaux, Rivers Gsell and Lori Miller. He looked forward to births of two great grandchildren, Genevieve Kozanek and Baby Badeaux. Nephews: Larry Barbay (Kate), Tab Barbay (Kathy) and Chad Barbay (Kathy); Niece: Kim Barbay; Sisters-in-law: Carolyn Barbay and Sylvia Bergeron; Godchild: Connie Braud Heroman.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home at 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Thursday, September 16th from 8:00-10:45AM; with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM at Saint Patrick Catholic Church celebrated by Father Michael Miceli. Internment at 12 Noon at Resthaven.

Pallbearers are Garrett Barbay, Tab Barbay, Mickey McAnelly, Michael McAnelly, Buddy Kennedy and Justin McNemar. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Barbay, Chad Barbay, Wes Barbay, Kerry Badeaux, Brittany Barbay and Timothy Boudreaux.

The family extends heartfelt thanks the staff of Baton Rouge General Hospital - Bluebonnet and The Carpenter House, St. Joseph Hospice for their compassionate care in providing peace, comfort and dignity.
