Fern died in her daughters home Friday evening at the age of 83. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, August 6, 1928 and was adopted by her parents, John B. Weidner Sr. and Fern Myrick Weidner. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John B. Weidner, Jr. Fern was married to J. Ernest Webb in 1952 after completing her nursing education at Charity Hospital of New Orleans. Ernest preceded her in death as well. She is survived by their three children: daughter, Martha Webb and partner Cindy Schneider of Baton Rouge, son John Webb and wife Christine of Avrille, France, and son William Webb of Baton Rouge grandchildren Erika Schneider of Baton Rouge and Julia Webb of Boston, MA and longtime friend Judith Schiebout. Fern practiced nursing for almost 30 years in various area hospitals and home health agencies including Baton Rouge General and Villa Feliciana. She enjoyed gardening and volunteered regularly. She was a member of the Rose Society and the Hibiscus Club, YAWS and the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary. Fern was a devout member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for over 50 years. Arrangements include visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, Wednesday April 11, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at Our Lady of Mercy Church on Thursday April 12, 2012 from 1 p.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Mass will be officiated by Ferns lifelong friend Monsignor Leo Guillot and will be followed by interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and a repast at the home of her family. The family offers special thanks to Life Source Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care of both Fern and her family and to Cora Ellis, her sitter, companion, and friend for nearly six years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Life Source Hospice, the American Diabetes Association , the National Stroke Association, or a charity of your choice . Her smile will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
