Eugene Anderson Gene Herring, 89, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010. He died peacefully at home with those he loved after battling congestive heart failure. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Christene Russell Herring daughter, Barbara Herring Taylor brother, Clifton Herring and wife Kay, of Waynesboro, Miss. sister, Mrs. Edna Mae King, of Monticello, Miss., numerous nieces and nephews and very special family friend, Monette Davis. Preceded in death by his parents, Jodie and Amanda Herring two brothers and a sister. He was a longtime member of Istrouma Baptist Church where he served as building and grounds superintendent until his retirement. Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice and special friends Jim Baham and Tom Webb for their attentive and loving care of Mr. Gene. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., officiated by Dr. Ferris Jordan. Pallbearers will be Russell Greer, David Legendre, Jim Baham, Tom Webb, Lloyd Stewart and Duane Portero. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
