Peppy Doughty passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends at the age of 64. He was born on September 27, 1951 in Baton Rouge. Peppy was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Woodlawn high school. Peppy proudly retired as assistant chief from the Baton Rouge Fire Department after serving for 30+ years. In addition, he served with pride as assistant chief for the East Side Fire Department after serving 40+ years. Peppy devoted his entire life to fighting fires and saving lives. Throughout the years, peppy was a mentor to countless firemen. He consistently studied fire manuals and was well prepared for any given situation. There were multiple occasions he received the "Fireman of the Year" award. His passion was dancing to east coast swing songs. He truly loved to take Caribbean cruises and had just marked his 15th voyage on Valentine's Day of this year.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 15 years, LaJuana Doughty; his step-children, Dr. Gerald Calegan, II and wife Becky, Dr. LaJuana Ravens, Gerrad Calegan and wife Samantha; and four grandchildren, Katie, Lauren, Ted and Owen. His brothers and sisters are Jerry Doughty and wife, Debbie; Kenny Doughty and wife, Laurie; Danny Doughty and wife, Wanda; Melanie Barnett and husband, Brent; and Janet Hume and husband, Bryon; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Peppy was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Ernest Preston Doughty, Sr. and stepson Geremy Calegan. The Louisiana State Honor Guard will stand by his side during the service. East Side Fire Department will lead the way to his final resting place. Visiting will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and funeral home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Wednesday May 11, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visiting will resume on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, from 11:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm.
Interment will follow at Resthaven gardens of memory.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Neuromedical Center of Baton Rouge, and the staff of St. Joseph Carpenter House, the clergy and staff of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the staff and members of Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.
