Emily passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the age of 84. She was born in Texarkana, Arkansas to John Christopher O'Dwyer, Sr. and Anne Clare LaVelle O'Dwyer. When she was seven, her mother passed away, and the family moved to Shreveport, LA where she attended St. Vincent's Academy. After attending Business College, she worked as an Executive Secretary for L.C. Poindexter at United Gas Corporation. On April 30, 1955, she married Phillip Gifford Alley whom she had met at a church function. She moved with her family to Baton Rouge in 1962 and remained in Baton Rouge the rest of her life. As a mother of six, she was an active volunteer in their schools chairing many committees and functions. She had a beautiful singing voice, which she passed down to many of her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Fr. John C. O'Dwyer, Fr. Raymond LaVelle O'Dwyer and Roger Joseph O'Dwyer, her two sisters, Anne Clare O'Dwyer Prudhomme and Dorothy Jane O'Dwyer Prudhomme, and her two granddaughters, Anne Clare Reintjes and Anna Grace Alley.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, her daughter, Jeannette Alley Reintjes and her husband, Robert J. Reintjes, Jr. of Mission Hills, Kansas, her son, Phillip Gifford Alley, Jr. and his wife, Margaret Bracamontes Alley of Covington and the mother of his daughter, Karen Kelley Alley, her daughter, Kathleen Alley Lovretich and her husband, Dr. John O. Lovretich of Baton Rouge, her son, John Christopher Alley, Sr. and his wife, Michelle Buisson Alley of Metairie, her son, Paul Gerard Alley of Fort Worth, Texas and the mother of his children, Carrie Kamin Alley and her son, Michael Todd Alley, Sr. and his wife, Monica Rodrigue Alley of Baton Rouge; 22 grandchildren, Robert James Reintjes, III and his wife, Dr. Staci Schnieders Reintjes, Kathryn Emily Reintjes Ashley and her husband, Michael Ryan Ashley, John Phillip Reintjes, Paul Joseph Reintjes and his wife, Amelia Wenzel Reintjes, Michael Lewis Reintjes, Katelyn Marie Alley, John Maxwell Lovretich, Samuel Phillip Lovretich, Colleen Clare Lovretich, John Christopher Alley, Jr. and his wife, Ann Bergeron Alley, Rebecca Elaine Alley, Brenna Michelle Alley, Michael George Alley, Christa Michelle Alley, Bridget Evelyn Alley, Samantha Anne Alley, Rachel Hart Alley, Michael Todd Alley, Jr., Patrick Joseph Alley, Emily Elaine Alley, Thomas Gifford Alley and Andrew Declan Alley; and four great granddaughters, Carolyn Grace Ashley, Sage Elizabeth Reintjes, Emily Kathleen Ashley and Teagan Olivia Reintjes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Drs. O'Neal, Patel and Davis and the staff at the Baton Rouge General Hospital ICU-B and 6th floor, and The Carpenter House for their kindness and support.
Visitation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon.
