Emile Ackoury, Jr.

February 25, 1929 — November 17, 2017

Emile Anthony "E. A." Ackoury, Jr., age 88, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on November 17, 2017.

E. A. graduated from Catholic High School, UL Lafayette, and received his Master's Degree education from LSU. E. A. was married to Carolyn Slaton from 1961 until her death in 1995.

He was a 2d Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. E.A. was a life-long educator in the State of Louisiana, primarily in East Baton Rouge Parish, as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He retired in 1985.

E. A. was a St. Patrick Catholic Church parishioner. He was an avid golfer and a founding member of Fairwood Country Club. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, Fox News, and westerns. He was a member of the Ragin Cajuns baseball team during college at ULL. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being involved with their activities.

E. A. is survived by his children and their spouses, Denise Ackoury, Lynne and Mark Mains, Vicki and Magoo Lieux, Trey and Lisa Ackoury, and Susan Duncan. He is also survived by his brother, Nolan H. Ackoury, Sr. His grandchildren include Dr. Morgan Mains Van Zandant and husband Joey Van Zandt, Connor Mains, Ali Ackoury, Parker Mains, Ella Grace Ackoury, and Finlee Ackoury.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Slaton Ackoury; parents, Emile Anthony Ackoury, Sr. and Adele Nolan Ackoury; sister, Marylyn Ackoury Agerton; and grandson, Slaton Anthony Ackoury.

Visitation will take place at Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Monday, November 20, from 12:30 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00, conducted by Father Phil Spano. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Pallbearers will be Magoo Lieux, Mark Mains, Connor Mains, Parker Mains, Joey Van Zandt, Roy East, and Nolan Ackoury.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
