Lovingly known as Red or by the family members as Uncle Red. Uncle Elvin has just celebrated his 88th birthday on June 24th. Born in 1922 to Mike and Hazel Turner of Norfolk, VA where he met and married the love of his life, Naoma Humphreys from Louisiana. He was in sales most of his life but a professional drummer at night. He and Naoma loved dancing. They moved to Louisiana in the early 70s. Naoma passed away in 2002 at which time they had been married 52 years. He then moved to Clinton, LA where he lived in the home of Virgil and Billie McGraw, his nephew and niece. His health began to fail in the last five years. Stroke complications sent him to Lane Memorial Hospital where he passed away at 12:47am on July 23rd. Graveside services were at Resthaven Gardens of Memory on Saturday, July 24th at 1pm. Conducted by Rev. Everette Hurley. Uncel Red had a big smile you couldnt forget. A very fun loving guy that loved life. Uncle Red leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends as well as beloved pet of the home Susette. Now he and Naoma are dancing on Streets of Gold. Special thanks to Dr. Rathbone and staff, also the Nursing staff on 2 South at Lane Memorial Hospital. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis, TN.
