A devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend died on Monday, November 16, 2015, at the age of 95. She was a native of Hope Villa, LA and resident of Baton Rouge. Elva was a loving, Christian lady and lived a life of service to her Lord, family, church and community. She completed business college in Baton Rouge and worked at Harding Field during World War II. She retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Elva enjoyed her dogs, traveling, camping, sewing, cooking, teaching children in Sunday School and caring for others. Her most cherished times were spent with her family and her beloved husband Arthur. She was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church, Pollard Planters Garden Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Elva is survived by her sisters, Dorothy D. Guins, Hilda R. Dixon, and Loretta D. Brignac (Herman); brother, Vernon L. Dixon, and many devoted nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Arthur E. Wheat; parents, John L. and Bonnie K. Dixon; sisters Eva D. Sholar, Estelle Dixon, Bonnie L. Dixon, and brothers John Dixon, Malcolm Dixon, Aubrey Dixon and Rev. Miner Dixon.
Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, on Saturday, November 21, 2015, from 9 am until funeral services at 11 am. Dr. T C French will officiate. Interment to follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Memorial donations may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 Desiard St., Monroe, LA 71203 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
