Wayne Varnado, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born April 11, 1946, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, son of the late Ellis Wayne Varnado and Nan Calhoun Varnado. Wayne proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He worked 35 years for Entergy/GSU as an Operations Coordinator prior to his retirement.
Wayne had many hobbies, but his primary passions were hunting and fishing with his son and grandson, chasing his great-grand-dogs, Clyde, Nelli, and Raven around the yard, and spending quality time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Buddy Hudson; and his brother-in-law, Sonny Hudson.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dianne Hudson Varnado; their daughter Hope Varnado; their son, Ellis Wayne Varnado, III and wife Irene; and his beloved grandchildren Traci, Brennen and girlfriend Gabi, Anton, Tori, Celine, Abbie, Baylee and Brianna. He is also survived by his sister Ruby Crowe and husband Donnie; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
