Ellen Ervin

March 22, 1919 — October 12, 2016

Our precious GoGo peacefully ascended to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, and her beloved husband and son on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Born March 22nd in Macon, Georgia in 1919, Ellen "GoGo" Ervin lived a very full 97 years and touched many, many lives. She was a charter member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and was later adopted into the family of River of Life Fellowship Church in Port Vincent, Louisiana.

As the matriarch of her Scottish clan, she had a gift for finding the absolute best qualities in each person she encountered. GoGo, with her rosy cheeks, indomitable spirit, and twinkling eyes, could lift you up and make you feel like the most important person in the world. Even more, she would envision how you could use those traits to their fullest extent. Her talent for being able to encourage others only slightly exceeded her talent for cooking. She had the ability to cook anything in such a way that it transcended mere food and became a blanket of comfort. She was fun loving and adored by her children, her 10 grandchildren, their wives and husbands, and her 20 great-grands, which she affectionately called her GG's. With the 21st GG anticipated to arrive next week, she celebrated life in a way that few do. Her ability to connect with people from any age group and engage with them was a testament to her sharp mind, her quick wit, and her keen sensibilities. A true Southern belle, she was passionate, patriotic, and loyal beyond measure. There was, and will only ever be, one GoGo.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Susan Richard and Maellen Mathews, along with her son-in-law, John Mathews. She was preceded in death by her son, Buster Ervin, her husband, Edgar Ervin, and her son-in-law, Gus Richard. She is survived by a host of family. Her grandchildren and their spouses are as follows: Chard Richard (Mendy), Nancy Richard, Ward Mathews (Susan), Suzy Sanchez (Joey), John Mathews, Jr. (Kelly), Ashley Ward (Eric), Ryan Richard (Emily), Jenya Farrar (Larry), Anastasia Mathews, and Kathleen Lipsett (Taylor).

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Jeri Chenier. GoGo loved Jeri dearly and looked forward to their fun excursions during their time together. Jeri will forever be a part of our family.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 9a until religious services at 11a.
