Summoned home The call has sounded. Mrs. Major Elizabeth Katie Lee Lewis heard God's call and the song of the angels resounding, welcoming a warrior to eternal peace. Our loved one and dear friend, the Lord's true, faithful soldier and King's Messenger, was promoted to glory on Sunday evening, March 8, 2009, at 10:30 p.m. from her home in Baton Rouge, with her family by her side. Elizabeth Katie Lee was 80, born on March 20, 1928, in Iaeger, W.Va. Katie and Bennie Lewis were married on Jan. 29, 1947, and were commissioned and ordained as ministers in The Salvation Army on June 7, 1948. They retired after giving 43 years of faithful service to Baton Rouge. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, March 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home chapel on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Maj. Stephen Long, Connie Long and Lt. Col. Jack Waters. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. She is survived by two daughters, Anne Shaughnessy, of Gainesville, Fla., and Alma Kirkland; son, Lee Lewis and wife Ivy; two sisters, Virginia Milligan and husband Daymond, and Mary Strozes and husband Richard, all of Stafford, Va.; two brothers, Billy Roy Lee and wife Yvonne, of Arizona, and Larry Gene Lee and wife Judy, of Stafford; four grandchildren, Ashley Kirkland, Natalie Osborne, Katelin Lewis and Trey Lewis; and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bennie T. Lewis; parents, Lifus and Rosie Jane Lee; five brothers and a sister.
