Elizabeth Thielman Caldwell passed away peacefully and entered the gates of Heaven on August 28, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer.
Liz was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and spent the majority of her adult years in New Orleans, LA. She moved to New Roads, LA following hurricane Katrina in 2005 and returned to Baton Rouge in 2008. She was a 1969 graduate of Baton Rouge High School and then attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. She was a proud member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority throughout her college years, where she proudly served as a board member. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1973. She then spent her entire career shaping the minds and hearts of the children who were lucky enough to have her as their teacher. For 32 years, she worked tirelessly and whole-heartedly to better the lives of all of the students who crossed her path before retiring in 2005.
She is survived by her children: Brandy Thomas and boyfriend Steven Bradley, Michael Thomas and wife Gwen, Brittany Walters and husband Stewart, and Katie Caldwell; her grandchildren, Trey, Beau, Blake and Kate; her boyfriend, William Bill Lindsey; her former-husband and lifelong friend, Tommy Thomas and wife Faye; her sisters, Lisa Schuetz, Pat Thomas and Jean Arnone and husband A.J.; her brother, Charlie Thomas; numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins; and countless wonderful friends that were like family to her.
Liz is preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Patin Hall; her fathers, Edwards Bell Thielman and Ferrell Fred "Skinny" Hall; her grandparents; and her nephew, Rev. John Arnone.
When she found out she was ill and only had a few weeks left to live, she made the choice to be happy. She chose to live each moment with joy and requested that all around her do the same. She wanted to leave a legacy of LOVE, and that she did.
Liz's celebration of life will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Friday, September 1, 2017. Visitation will take place at 1:00pm with services to follow at 3:00pm. Afterwards, friends and family will gather at her home to continue their celebration and to give thanks for the wonderful gift that her life was to us all.
The family of Liz would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans and the wonderful and caring staff with Clarity Hospice who cared for her so lovingly the last few weeks of her life.
Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
