Elgene “Gene” Roy Carney, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the age of 81. Gene was born on December 2, 1942, in Baton Rouge to DC and Lizzie Mae Carney.
Gene attended Louisiana College in Pineville (now, Louisiana Christian University) and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He began his careers in Industrial Sales before becoming the Facilities Director at Parkview Baptist Church where he was a longtime member.
Gene was a man of strong faith, who will be lovingly remembered by his family. He also loved Table tennis and music, including jazz and easy listening.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Leona Annette Carney; and his brothers, Clayton Carney, Maynard Carney, and Tom Walker.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Barbara Sutterfield Carney; his daughters, Anita Jones, and Malissa “Missy” Purvis (Danny); his son, Joly Vaughn Carney; his step-son, Brandon Bostwick (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Crissy Jones Fuller (Brett), Tommy “Trey” Jones, Paul Purvis, Jonathan Purvis (Kayla), Desiree Purvis Price (George), Cody Carney, Cade Bostwick, and Trevor Bostwick; his eight great-grandchildren, River and Finn Price, Melodiee Carney, Drevan Brodin, Selena Call, Clinton Jones, and Serenity and Cali Fuller; his sister, Darrylin Coleman; and his brother, Robert Lynn Carney.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. on Friday, August 16, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
