Elaine Krause Hadlock, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away following a brief illness on Thursday, November 20, 2014. She is survived by a daughter and soninlaw, Susan and Rick Ottsen of Baton Rouge two sons and daughtersinlaw, Dr. William and Monica Hadlock, Baton Rouge and John and Amy Hadlock, Ann Arbor, MI and six grandchildren, Peter and Kevin Ottsen, Claire and Robert Hadlock, and Thomas and Mark Hadlock and her beloved Chihuahua, Kasey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene C. Gene Hadlock.
Born in Witbank, South Africa on November 7, 1932, she met and married Gene in 1954 while he was working in South Africa and immigrated to the US. She quickly adopted Baton Rouge as home. Over the years she worked in a variety of office administration positions including Vice President of Operations at Cablevision in Baton Rouge. She was always full of energy and embraced life passionately. She believed in the innate goodness of people. Her home was always open. To her, no one was a stranger everyone was family. She doted on her grandchildren and was always a fun grandma who chased and played with them.
Undaunted, Elaine welcomed any challenge. She had an adventurous, caring spirit. She loved nothing more than travelling and exploring new places. In her lifetime, Elaine lived in Spain, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands as Genes career transferred them around the world. She was always looking to reach out and help others, volunteering endless hours with the Battered Womens program, Volunteers in Public Schools, and the Tigerland ExxonMobil Annuitants Club to name a few. She had a heart for missions, participating in several mission trips through the Methodist church. She also had a heart for helping students succeed. She established and ran a tutoring program at St. Johns United Methodist Church that has continued for over 20 years.
A celebration of her life will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home with visitation from 5:307:30 pm Friday and again at 9:00 am Saturday, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Battered Womens Program in Baton Rouge.
