Edwina Davis Pool went home to be with the Lord Saturday February 22, 2014 of Alzheimers related causes at Baton Rouge General Hospital. She was 85 years old.
Born in Jackson Parish Louisiana on November 4, 1928 to William Henry Davis and Willie Odel Wyatt Davis. She always remembered fondly her childhood growing up in rural Jackson Parish with her 2 older brothers John Robert her guardian angel K.I.A. North Korea survived by daughter Juanita Beth Davis of Baton Rouge and William Henry her primary antagonist still residing in Tyler, TX and her younger brother Louis Manley her charge now residing in Baton Rouge. Edwina often talked of her school mates at Weston School where she played basketball and enjoyed clowning in school plays.
During the war Edwina worked summers making clothes for the military in the hopes one of her brothers serving in the south pacific would get to wear them. After high school she went to work in Baton Rouge where she lived with her cousin Jeri Fay Walsworth and her parents Mr. Mrs. Clarence Walsworth who attended North Highlands Baptist Church. It was there that she met Ottice Robert Bob Pool who was visiting his parents after returning from WWII.
They were married on November 27, 1947 at the Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Weston, Louisiana. Most of their life together was spent in Baton Rouge where their 3 children Gary, Trisha Jena were born. From 19562000 the family attended Brownsfield Baptist Church where Edwina served as secretary for many years.
In recent years until her the death of her husband they lived in Zachary, La near daughter Jena Pool Vamado due to their failing health. Always holding her family close, she hosted gatherings of her children, her extended family, and her church family regularly at the farm. Loved by all, she was known to clown with friends and grandchildren.
She is remembered joyfully by 14 grandchildren as one of a kind for the annual vacations with Wina and Pawpaw in the motor home, fried chicken, sweet tea, and her scary face. Wina had a way of making each one feel special. She was great grandmother to 28 babies that she loved.
After a fall just before Christmas she declined very rapidly and was cared for by Baton Rouge General Hospital, Dr. Rhodes of Baker, and her children. Mom collapsed Saturday morning in the arms of her daughter Trisha Pool Distefano and went home to be with the Lord.
Visitation for friends and family will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Jefferson HWY in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, February 25 from 69 p.m. Funeral and interment to be held on Wednesday, February 26 at Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Jackson Parish where she first met the Lord and was married. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery beside her husband of 63 years and 3 generations of her family.
