Edward Mitchell Alonzo, our loving husband, father, brother and uncle, passed away on Monday, January 20. 2025, at the age of 67. He left this world knowing he would soon add grandfather to that list.
He was born March 6, 1957, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Darron Joseph Alonzo and Annette Marie Couvillion Alonzo. Edward was a 1975 graduate of Woodlawn High School. After completing vocational school, he began his career as an instrumentation technician with Mexichem/Koura before retiring in 2023.
Edward loved being on the water – he could be found speedboating, attending charity boat poker runs, including the Tickfaw 200 and Fireman’s, or closing the day watching sunsets on the lake. When on land, he never missed live sporting events, especially LSU tailgate parties, and regularly attended country music concerts. Edward was always on the move, whether hiking the Great Smoky Mountains, weightlifting, or repairing car and boat motors. All these paled in comparison to his dedication to prayer and his beloved family, making countless memories with them and friends.
Edward will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, loving nature, and the pure devotion he had to his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Roy Harold Allen.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Lavonne Theresa Hornbeck Wattigney Alonzo; his daughters, Emilie Annette Alonzo Cecola (Patrick Ryan) and Camryn Elizabeth Smith; and his stepchildren, Michael William Wattigney, II and Laura Michele Wattigney. Edward is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Elizabeth Davis, Connie Ann Creel (William Joseph) and Patricia Lynn Allen; his brother Barry Joseph Alonzo (Shanta Jeanne); his niece Cynthia Marie Davis (Raymond Cecile); as well as countless other loving family and friends, including Randi Meche Forgie, who he forged a friendship with after she was a consultant for oncology services.
